How do you do that? Creating flow

Many people look at my artistic work wondering how in the world I create such designs.   It is my pleasure to share the road to such pieces.

When I work I use aPhone Thru Jan 20 2015 372 single piece of yarn to create all of the swirls and twirls you see.   When I am creating, I typically do not know what the finish piece will be.   Once I have determined how much to crochet, there is a bland looking array of what can be called ‘string’.  No shape, form….basically nothing.

It is now that I must take pause, a day or so, sometimes weeks for inner processing.  Refreshed, I return to do the ‘sculpting’ of the work.

“Sistah Chat” by  Alicia Evans

It is here I use my Phone Thru Jan 20 2015 397hands, deep focus and patience to create the finished piece, mold it so it reflects a special flow and rhythm.  I sculpt so that my pieces take you on a meditative dance.  My work is designed to take you away, courting you into a whirl where your eyes cannot help but delve into the pathways attempting to discover where it begins and where it ends.

Here is the finished “Sister Chat” highlighting weaved abstraction of two women talking featuring the depth of their entanglement through interwoven yarn.  The tassle celebrates the glorious bond of all they share.
