Mother’s Day Healing

Whew…what crazy months have gone by as I find myself in the new role of eldercare.  While mom is healing from a neck that was broken, I find ways to shift, ways to settle back into serenity.

I was so overjoyed to find a rare moment to create and emerge into oneness with my art.  To mindfully slip away to refresh and meander into the stillness of a gloriously beautiful morn with my needle and yarn.

I took my studio work into the sun to finish this joyful new tree.  Ahh, new work in celebration of mom…

Mother’s Day, Superman & Yarn

Had to step away from writing for a moment…but for a good cause.  My mother had a horrific mishap with her neck in January…and I’ve been throughly engaged with healing…and finding a new “normal”.  Her predicament is on the same level as Christopher Reeves, Superman, but I refuse to call it by that name for her condition is greatly improving now.  She is truly healing.

In the meantime, during these past months of living in waiting room after waiting room, I stitched my way through her pain, my family’s pain…my own pain.  Every single day, through this roller coaster of medical treatments, hospitals, Intensive Care stays, rehabs, ambulance moves, waiting for this treament and that therapy, I crocheted my way through.

In celebration of transitioning those countless hours spent in all kinds of medical facilities into joy, I share with you now the bouquet of crocheted works.  Below is only a small  sampling.  Each color will soon be sculpted into a fine art masterpiece.

Here’s to my mother’s healing.  On the road to a wonderful Mother’s Day.

Black Friday for an Artist

image

“Black Friday” for me, the fiber artist, and as a busy professor with an official day of from work means true celebration!  And that’s not engaged in the traditional shopping frenzy but focused on my true nature as an artist.

Today I’m finishing up work on the Redd Tree Series mentioned in previous posts.  I’ll be organizing my studio and taking inventory of supplies.  I’ve just been gifted yarn which needs to be put away and yes, I have freshly cut wood which needs to be prepped.

It will truly be a peaceful day with soft jazz playing in the background.  I’ll have a pot of cinnamon and water brewing to fragrance the air with holiday spiritis.  And, of course, there’s leftover turkey for midday snacking and some of that leftover apple pie.  There will be few phone calls coming in.  Why?  ‘Cause everyone’s out shopping in the madness of “Black Friday”!

Here’s to artists across nation.
Here’s to crochet needles and yarn and the world’s fiber artists as we continue to joyfully and peacefully create!
