Tree Advocacy Thru Yarn

I have long had a passion for trees.  As a public relations professional and educator, I have spearheaded campaigns for trees, conducted event planning for a songwriting contest for trees and have contributed to New York’s One Million Trees program.

I continuously return to trees in some form or fashion.  I delve even deeper now with my artwork focused on tree imagery.  And now it pleases me to launch When Trees Talk, Let the Yarn Speak.  This is an international tree advocacy program with a twist of art.  It is the mission of the program to use visual imagery to prompt authentic talk, awareness and support of trees currently in crisis around the world.

When Trees Talk(c) serves as a forum where people can gather for an exciting flow of facilitated dialogue which allows for authentic, down-to-earth conversation.

I am so pleased to be launching the program during a session with the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island on Sunday, August 25, 2019.  We will go on a journey exploring the world of trees, hear of their secret life and what trees do at night.  We will hear insights of the challenging state of trees today and all participate in an interesting exercise which takes place in the year 2093 involving a critical decision to be made regarding trees.

Stay tuned.

When Trees Speak!

It is so wonderful to be back.  Have been off sharing my art in solo exhibitions, in group shows and more.  In addition, I’ve just returned to New York after garnering a fabulous art scholarship in the highly acclaimed SAVVY ARTS CHALLENGE at the University of South Carolina.  This wonderful program brought 100 artists in from around the country to assist businesses address challenges using art.  What a fabulous adventure.  My group was assigned a farm.  I’ll share more about that experience in my next post.

In the meantime, I have been delving deeper into my work focused on trees.  I am extremely focused on bring the visual narrative of cherishing trees into everyday life.  The shift in  our environment, climate change, the lost of trees due to fires or plain old destruction for economics demand our attention.  I simply wish to revisit my focus on trees and ask you to take a moment to address your intention, attention, compassion and empathy towards a major segment vital to the existence of humanity.

When I crochet, it is as if my needle and thread begin to talk, thus my tagline:  “Let the yarn speak!”

Redd Trees Are Hot! Holiday Gift Inspirations

I’ve had such grand demands for a red tree recently featured in my solo exhibit.  Before the show even opened it sold in an instant.

While every item I create is custom…one-of-a-kind, I have decided to expand upon the Redd Tree Series focused on the yarn shade but each design is, indeed, signature.  A quick share of such on my Facebook page yesterday and swoop! Another one was quickly “adopted”.  I usually fall in love with my pieces but they are gone so fast I don’t get a chance to fall deeply in love.

Here are my Redd Trees with more on the way.  They make wonderful holiday gifts.  $55

Let me know if you wish to adopt one of these delightful tree swirls.

“Chit Chat” Pins Make Statement @ Museum Festival / Marketing Art

Well, I made it back from this weekend’s museum festival where I launched my Chit Chat pins.  As I shared in my last post, these pins are great for adorning bags, t-shirts, hats and more.  They are sooo much fun.

From an artist marketing perspective, my Chit Chat pins serve well as an audience engagement prompt for the opening the door to my more serious work focused on my more complex…and major investment…of my fiber art wall hangings, especially those of my major works on tress.

How’d this all work:  Well, with the Chit Chat pins creatively displayed it naturally drew an  audience.  Once drawn to my area, I had an authentic, down-to-earth chat about the possibilities for adorning the pins.  After the initial pitch, I drew them into conversation about my larger works which are excellent pieces for decorating their home, office or for gifting for anniversaries, birthdays or other special occasions.  I even advised of how my work serves as an excellent way to memoralized a loved one.  For businesses and politicians, I indicated the artwork is excellent for awards programs, promotional campaigns and great for other out-of-the-box programming.

Well, indeed, it worked!  My “Chit Chat” pins were a hit and accomplished marketing efforts intended.

Adorn a t-shirt, spruce up a bag, start a conversation with a pin dancing upon your hat.

All works are crocheted and then ‘sculpt’ into form.  Each color represents one continuous flow of yarn.  The beads are woven into the work as I go along.  Backgrounds are natural wheat grass or bamboo.
